Mrs. West's Class shows possession!

This week we were learning about possessives with nouns.  It was fun talking about rewriting a sentence to make it more easy to understand, for example, The cat that belongs to Joe. can also be written as Joe's cat. We went on a search of the classroom and my little friends were able to help me label some things in our classroom so that we didn't confuse them with belonging to someone else. :) Check out what we found...
"Mrs. West's Computer"

"Mrs. West's Desk"

"Destiny V.'s jacket, chair."

Lucky Mrs. Hansen also got labeled.... "Mrs. West's Helper"

"Sophia's Lunchbox"

"Karlye's Doll"

"Elijah's Chair"

Biographies (Share Time)

We just finished up writing our February publishing piece...where each person wrote about their biography buddy in class.  (I will be recording them reading these soon....be on the lookout!) Once a few were finished and others were still working, I had my finished friends share their biographies about their buddy with other friends.  Check them out!
Madison reads hers aloud as the rest listen quietly. :)

I had to add the picture of all the friends that donated $1 to wear a hat today and support cancer and our relay for life team! :) Way to go guys! :)

Nonfiction Research

I am so excited that we have been working on our Nonfiction Unit in reading.  We have recently been working on researching nonfiction topics and have been working with a buddy to research a specific nonfiction topic from a tub of books.  We have researched and already taught one topic to another group.  We have just begun a new topic this past week and are about to begin teaching that research topic to our friends.  I hope you enjoy.  Ask your kids what they have learned about their topics. :)
Madison researching Abraham Lincoln.

Joe & Lee researching Snakes together.

Brendan & Drake researching Sharks.

Leah teaching some facts about her topic "Animal Homes" using her "jotting" she wrote down while researching.

Two groups teaching each other about their topics.

Elijah & Russell exploring their NEW topics today (Sharks).

Sophia and Karlye researching about Polar Animals.

Hank and Lee looking at the famous Americans basket. Hank was thrilled to see a famous American he already knew about....Louis Pasteur.

Drake & Genavieve researching America.

Madison & Brendan researching snakes & frogs.

Emma & Timothy research about the ocean.

I love how Destiny P., and Sam are really doing a great job working together to come up with a cool fact about whales/dolphins for their fact recording sheet.

Fun Times in Room 101 (plenty of miscellany to read up on)

Oh my!  I am very behind on our class blog. Forgive me...lots going on and so little time!!! We have been so busy in our classroom.  Here are a few (not really, actually it's a whole lot) of our fun times we have had recently.  Check it out and see! :)
Dancing and singing to the "Compound Word" song... oh how they enjoyed this. (We did it twice)

Our new friend, Lexi! Welcome! :)

Sophia is out of the hospital, and we are writing her get well, we miss you letters! Hank was very proud of his letter! :)

Elijah worked really hard on  his too.

This one was awesome...here is what it says, " Dear Sophia, We miss you. We are not going to talk like a red neck.  Do not ask who this is. It is Russell B. Jones. Anyways, I hope you feel better! Love, Russell B. Jones"
Let me just say this goes after my speech about, "Let's not write things, like, 'I hope you don't die.' because that doesn't sound nice even though it's something I know you mean." One kid replies, "I know who talks like that...rednecks!" So, one child proceeded to tell her we will not be talking like red necks....:) OH MY!

Destiny V. got new glasses (so did Mrs. West :) )

Kimberly got new glasses too!  (Now, there are four of us girls with glasses, we girls gotta stick together :))

Kimberly used her "show & Share" pass... :)

Genavieve used her "show & share" pass too.
