Learning in 101: 1st Grade Style

We have had a wonderful start to this school year.  I have really enjoyed being with my kiddos this year and am excited about how much they are learning already.  Here are some pictures to capture some of the things we have been doing the past couple weeks.  :)
We have been showing different ways to add numbers to 10.  We have used counters, part part whole mats, plates with ears, and drawn circles to show our answers.  Here are some pictures of us using counters to show to parts of a whole.

We have also been talking about how good readers need certain things to help them as a reader.  Good readers need: a nice comfy/cozy spot to read.  All of our friends found nice cozy spots to read on their own.

We have also reviewed all of the Kindergarten "Popcorn" words and decided to play a review game of "Popcorn Wordo"  (Like Bingo but with words)

We have also been working with short a (review).  Eric is playing a short a sort.  He pulls a card from the baggy and sorts the word under its correct short a word chunk.

Blaine is sorting his short a words too.

To make our learning a little more "real," we have labeled our room with sticky notes showing different nouns.  Our friends did a WONDERFUL job finding and labeling different nouns in the classroom.  Akilah found the "computer."

Brody found the "mug."

Caprice labeled the "chart."

Keep checking in to see more fun learning in Room 101. :)
