Cultures Around The World: A First Grader's Journey

We had such a great time over the past couple months learning all about several different cultures.  I was able to catch some great pictures.  We learned about lots of different countries...I was only able to snap a few though.  We learned about our own culture first: USA. We also learned about Brazil, Italy, Mexico, England, Australia, Ireland, Germany, Jamaica, and a few more. Here are some pictures of some of our fun adventures!

Art Encounter Day 2012

We had an amazing Art Encounter Day this year.  Our Art Teacher, Karen Nall, did a FABULOUS job organizing and coordinating the event.  Here is a little bit of our day.  I want to give an extra big thank you to Mrs. Sonen for bringing in pizzas, dessert, fruit cups, and drinks to celebrate the event, and Mrs. Thomas for helping out too! :) Y'all are amazing.
Mr. Monty Tucker, the storyteller.

He is such a great storyteller!

Look how engaged the kids are!

And, he brought props!

Ms. Melanie Elrod, Choreographer!

She taught us about the art of dance!

Two of our friends, Destiny V., and Madison were chosen to model the techniques!

Destiny V. shows us how to create a diamond shape with her body.

Madison shows us how to create a triangle with her body.

Here they are being straight like popsicle sticks... Joe looks super straight.

Go crazy!

Mr. Joe Thompson, Musician.

Doesn't he look so sweet. Sweet Kyle!

I love how much they are enjoying this!

Leah was chosen to help the pianist play!

So sweet!

The balloon artist!

She showed us the different lengths of the balloons.

She made us a duck hat for our class. Guess who had to wear it....?

Techno Art on the Computer with Mrs. Leondardi.

Cool Stuff!

Mrs. Leonardi teaching the kids how to use Paint to do some cool tricks!

Jay is getting the hang of it.

Russell had some cool techno art too.

Mrs. Shonda Boyanoski, the earth friendly card maker.

She taught us that after you give one of her cards away, the person that receives it can plant it and help the earth :)

Creating their own cards.

The boys are decorating!

Zachary made his card for me...how sweet?!

Ms. Catherine, the caricaturist.

She was so good and so quick. Creating a caricature of Kimberly.

Finished product.

Hank's finished product.

Destiny P.'s finished product.

Leah is creating her own caricature of someone.

Writing thank you notes at the end of the day to one of the artists. WHAT A GREAT DAY! :)
