Reading Workshop

We have been working on our Reading Workshop since the first day of school.  Everyone has been working really hard to become good, strong, readers.  After teaching the how to's of reading while I conference with the students, we talked about how to sit comfortably, read quietly by yourself, noticing details in words and pictures, and how to not interrupt.  We have practiced and role-played the do's and do-not's of reading conferencing.  I was able to catch everyone reading nicely during their independent reading time, while I was having reading conferences.  Check out our friends and their reading styles!
Look at how they are sitting up straight, books are flat, and Russell is pointing to the words he reads.

I love how they are completely into their stories.

Good reading position, completely focused.

I like how Brendan is sounding out the words he's reading.  Shamiya looks like she is really enjoying her book!

I love Karlye's reading position (comfortable, I see).  I like how Hank & Destiny are sitting up tall and really noticing the words and details in the pictures.

They look like strong readers now!

Sitting up straight, books flat, fully focused.

Looking comfy and not distracted from their reading.

They are taking in everything on the pages of their books....not leaving one detail out!

Good reading position!

Look at how focused she is!  It must be good!

Using her "eagle eye" to use the pictures to help her figure out words.

Landon is doing great sitting up tall and reading to himself.

I like how she is examining the pictures.

Lee is really into this book.  He is checking to make sure the pictures go with the words.
