To start off, During the art teacher's, Mrs. Nall, maternity leave, her substitute chose two awesome artists from our class. While walking through the hallway one day, I noticed those two students' artwork displayed in the awesome artist showcase cabinet. I went ahead and took a picture so you could see what hard work our friends are doing in our class and in their other classes too. Their artwork is from the lesson where the students were taught about free forms. They turned a "free form paper" into a picture. Our awesome artists did a pretty neat job on their work. They were very creative in creating these pictures. Enjoy!

Another part of this post is what I noticed while walking around the other day during our Reading Workshop. We are learning about retelling stories with partners. Each partnership is responsible for reading a story and retelling the story to each other while the other partner becomes the listener. The listener can ask the reteller to stop and show them a part that they are talking about, or they can stop the reteller if they get confused about what they are saying. The reteller tells the story to their partner (the listener) including only the main important parts to the story. They don't want to include every tiny detail, they are just summing it up for the other person. If the reteller gets stuck on a part of the story and can't recall the details, they may look back in the book to check and see what happened. Here is what I saw as I walked around the room. (You can practice this with your child at home...read a book together and have your child retell the story in his/her own words while you are the listener. Ask questions if the story isn't flowing right or you are confused about something.)

And now for the last part (the end) of the post. Next week, we will be doing lots of fun activities to learn about Pilgrims and Indians before we head out for Thanksgiving Break. In order to complete one of those activities, we had to start it today. I am so thankful for Mrs. Thomas (Hank's mom) for coming in and helping organize little groups of "painters" while I managed the rest of the group. Each child painted a toilet paper tube (What a great way to recycle by reusing one's trash to create artwork--YAY!) brown to create a body for our turkeys that we will be writing about next week! See how it looks at the beginning!
